Cheesesteaks by Matū Coming to Pasadena and Calabasas This Year
We are proud to introduce Cheesesteaks by Matū — a casual cheesesteak spot that serves just one thing (well two): our now-famous Matū Cheesesteak and potato chips.
Cheesesteaks by Matū was born out of overwhelming guest demand for the cheesesteaks we serve at Matū and Matū Kai. We are excited for a new way to celebrate the best beef in the world — bringing the same obsession and commitment to a more casual format.

The idea for a standalone Cheesesteaks by Matū location emerged when our sister company HiHo Cheeseburger was exploring a space in Pasadena that was slightly too large for their needs. Given that both restaurants are built around 100% grass-fed and finished Wagyu beef from First Light Farms, the solution was a natural one: a shared location featuring two distinct restaurants — HiHo Cheeseburger and Cheesesteaks by Matū. While the kitchens and teams remain separate, both restaurants proudly serve the same extraordinary beef.
“It may be true that old-school Philly steaks are made with commodity beef, but it doesn’t have to be that way. By using 100% grass-fed and finished Wagyu from First Light Farms, we’re showing what a cheesesteak can be,” says co-founder Scott Linder.
In addition to the beef, we use a custom, artisanal seeded bun and do something not typically done in Philly: each cheesesteak is made to order giving us the control to achieve the exact blend of Ribeye and Sirloin, Cooper Sharp cheese, and bun in every bite!
